Useful resources for u3as

Third Age Trust website is a very useful resource, full of information, help and guidance. If you can't find what you need, here's the support page, from which you can post a query: https://www.u3a.org.uk/members-area/support Some people find the best way to find things on it is to do a Google search (other search engines are available!), for example "u3a risk assessment".

Other valuable resources:

Beacon: Beacon is the software system used by most u3as for some or all of membership, financial and contact administration. Support is available from a dedicated team of volunteers: https://u3abeacon.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb

Chairs Forum: This is a private Facebook and WhatsApp group providing Chair's with a sounding-board, source of support and ideas / advice. There are very few new problems or challenges, some u3a somewhere will have been there and done that. There's also a regular session online where a given topic is discussed. To join Chair's Forum and receive invites to their monthly online sessions send an email to group facilitator Laurence Wale:   laurence.wale@worcesteru3a.org

Council Representatives for East Midlands region: John Butler and Rosie Allen are a fount of knowledge should you have have a very thorny issue and will point you in the direction of where to get the best advice. You can find out more about John and Rosie, and contact them from this link: https://eastmidlandsregion.u3asite.uk/council/

East Midlands Region website: The Est Midlands Regional Support Group is a group of volunteers whose function is to support our Council Representatives and our u3as. The website is a fount of information, and currently is advertising their next regional event, which any Derbyshire u3a may attend: https://eastmidlandsregion.u3asite.uk/

Let's Talk Tech: started in lockdown to facilitate and promote the use of tech (Zoom et al) to maintain connections with members, it has naturally evolved into a tech support site for all kinds of tech issues. Its strength is the range of tech experts who are on there, ready to help where they can. Again, there's a private Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1002726203847774 Plus a regular online session on a particular topic: https://letstalktech.u3asite.uk

Network Link: Network Link is different to a county Network like Derbyshire Network. It's a forum in which any u3a member can participate, and pretty much any topic can be discussed, some are about the management of u3as, some are more general. An future presentation will focus on how u3as can use Social Media better, for instance. You can find out more about Network Link on this page, and sign up to receive updates about their upcoming activity: https://www.u3a.org.uk/members-area/support/u3a-networks#Link

Siteworks: This is the main website platform used by and designed for u3as. Most but not all u3as use it. Support is available form a dedicated team of volunteers: https://siteworks.u3a.org.uk/

Treasurers' Forum: similar to Chairs' Forum, but for Treasurers. Facebook support group plus regular online sessions on topics Treasurers want to discuss. To join the list to receive notifications about online sessions email John Alexander at: johntreasurersforum@gmail.com
